This chain, specializing in a fusion of Hubei and Chongqing flavors, rapidly expanded to over 40 outlets across the Sichuan-Chongqing region over the past three years, once becoming a phenomenon in the local dining scene. However, when it attempted to extend its reach into central China, a case of "unacclimatization" exposed by big data quietly unfolded.
According to multiple industry insiders close to Youyoucao Eyu's management, the brand's "Eastward Expansion Plan," launched in the second half of 2024, faced unprecedented challenges. At five new stores opened in core areas like Wuhan's Optics Valley and Changsha's Wuyi Square business district, the average customer spending dropped by 15% compared to Chongqing stores, while the table turnover rate languished below 1.8, far lower than the 3.2 achieved in Chongqing. Founder Li Jianguo stated bluntly in an internal meeting: "We thought replicating Chongqing's successful formula would conquer new markets, but the data tells us we even need to recalculate the spiciness level of the chili peppers."
