Recently, the "Youyoucao Hubei-Chongqing Big Data Platform," jointly promoted by the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) administrative departments of Hubei and Chongqing, was officially put into operation. This platform is not a simple aggregation of information but a comprehensive digital infrastructure covering the entire industrial chain from planting, harvesting, and processing to distribution and clinical application. In Huangshui Town, Shizhu County, Chongqing, a reporter witnessed firsthand how an elderly farmer, Lao Zhang, used a mobile app to take photos of the Youyoucao he had harvested that day and upload them—the system automatically identified the variety, estimated the weight, and matched the nearest collection point along with real-time market prices.

"In the past, I feared they would drive down the price; now, I worry the data might be inaccurate," Lao Zhang told the reporter with a smile. The "data" he referred to is the core value of this platform. By integrating data from IoT sensors, weather stations, and third-party testing agencies across hundreds of TCM herb bases in Hubei and Chongqing, the platform can accurately predict the growing environment and optimal harvesting window for Youyoucao.
